Weldon Park, Corby

Project Information

Woods Hardwick were commissioned by Charles Church Developments Ltd to prepare the Transport Assessment and corresponding Travel Plan in support of their planning application for a site to the east of Weldon, known as Weldon Park. The scheme is for a mixed use development including around 1000 dwellings on around 80 hectares at Weldon Park, as part of an initial urban extension, which includes the Priors Hall development, North East of Corby. Highway access to the development is proposed from both the A43 and A427 which form the northern and southern boundaries of the site respectively. A new relief road joining both new access points will serve the development and provide the A427 relief road to the village of Weldon. Woods Hardwick designed both junctions to solve site specific issues, notably a tear drop roundabout at the A427 to enhance traffic calming through the village of Weldon. The Travel Plan strategy seeks to provide viable alternatives to private car use in order to reduce the trip generation of the proposed development. This is conducive to accommodating all new development - related traffic on both the existing and the proposed road network. The Travel Plan strategy also seeks to positively influence modal shift in line with Northamptonshire’s Transport Strategy for Growth 20% target. The Highways Agency are supporting these proposals as the impact on the A14 will be minimal once sustainable transport initiatives are in place. A key element of the TP strategy is rerouting an enhanced x4 bus service.
