Development Consultants Division

ARCHITECTURAL ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR (BIRMINGHAM)
Good understanding of small and high volume residential (planning) design procedures and co-ordination thereof Dynamic, well-motivated with strong communication and presentation skills
Already at Associate level or above
Suitable number of years’ experience working for a private sector residential architecture consultancy
Proven track record in quality presentations and negotiation experience for planning application submissions
Access to clients beneficial
Appreciation and experience of marketing and appointment generation
Ability to handle a varied and stimulating workload and deal directly with a range of different clients including major house builders
Design and draft residential feasibility and detailed sketch layouts (and house type designs) from concept to presentation level incorporating necessary LPA design standards
Sound understanding of developer viabilities and commerciality for all types of residential schemes
Provide direction to Master Planning, Design Statements, Development Briefs, Design Codes and detailed layout designs
Hands on as well as performing a supervisory and managerial role
Accomplished in AutoCAD, Photoshop and Office software packages

Engineering Division

ASSOCIATE/ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR (BEDFORD)
The ideal candidate will have the following skills / experience:

Degree qualified, ideally Chartered
Minimum of 5 years post-Graduation experience in Residential Housing market
Good communication and management skills
Experience of on-plot private engineering essential
Infrastructure Design, S38, S104, S278
Competent in Microdrainage and PDS
High level of Technical skills
Concept design, liaising with 3rd parties/Clients, producing detailed designs to tight deadlines and budgets

ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN
Ideally competent in Microstation, Microdrainage and PDS

Structural Division

ASSOCIATE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER (BEDFORD)
Woods Hardwick is a multi-disciplinary architectural and engineering consultancy. The structures team was set up around a year ago and this is an opportunity to be part of the development of the team and the wider firm. The team works across several sectors with a current bias towards residential. The team is led by a director, working with 4 other engineers and technicians. A more senior member of staff is now needed to assist the director with running the team and checking the work of engineers. This person will act as the director’s deputy. The role would suit someone recently chartered, probably with around 8-10 years post-graduation experience, and looking for an increase in responsibility. The ideal candidate will be experienced in working with all the main structural materials and a range of project types.

The job
Working closely with the structures team director, involved in the majority of projects in the team.
Providing overall direction to the rest of the team.
Taking personal control of more complex projects, particularly at the concept stage
Checking the work of engineers and technicians.
Assisting the director in managing workload, fees and invoicing.
Attending meetings to represent Woods Hardwick to Clients and other design professionals.

Required skills & qualifications
Degree in civil or structural engineering.
Minimum 8 years’ experience in the design of UK building structures.
Ability to design in all the main structural materials.
Capable of sketching to quickly explore ideas and communicate with others.
Experience in producing and checking structural calculations.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to lead and mentor more junior staff.
Desire take responsibility for projects and assist in the development of the team.

Desirable skills
Experience of using TEDDS calculation package
Knowledge of AutoCAD.
Experience of working on existing buildings
